Half Term Flies By

Well, this half term has certainly flown by!  The first weekend we spent in Lancashire (nr Chorley) for Rosie and Luke’s Christening.  It was great to catch up with Mick and Laura, John and Margaret and for Callum to  see Rosie again. Both were very excited to see each other!Photobucket

PhotobucketThe weather forecast was surprisingly good for the week, so we took advantage and went to Marwell Zoo with a friend and her kids on Monday.  They had an amazing Pumpkin display and the kids (and adults) could also have a go at carving their own pumpkin there.  Costs were pretty reasonable … £2 or £2.50 depending on the size of the pumpkin.

After the incident where a Kookabura tried to have Callum’s toes for Breakfast a few years, back, Callum is still incredibly wary of these birds.  There were only two out in the enclosure so he could easy dodge them!

Callum wanted to see the Tigers, Eva the giraffes and George the lambs … unsurprisingly, we didn’t see any of the latter!

Tuesday was an early start … the kids and mum’s were coming around for breakfast … and we’re talking the Full English here!  All the kids arrived in their PJ’s about 8am and everyone did a great job of polishing off the plates of food.

Wednesday was our usual busy day (minus the pre-school bit!).  We met up with the mum’s from my ante-natal class and the kids.  Then it was off to Callum’s swimming lesson followed by a sandwich from the Cookie Cafe (takeaway rather than the usual eat in!).  Callum was off to play with Kian in the afternoon whilst I took Mum for her radiotherapy session.  That ended up running behind schedule, so didn’t get back in time to go to the crop I usually go to.

Thursday we went back to the Cookie Cafe for the kids to have a Pizza making session.  The kids had a ball.  They rolled the dough out for the base … piled the pizza high with topping (well Callum did) … the ladies at the Cookie Cafe baked the pizzas and the kids ate their creations!!  It was fab and look forward to do this again at Christmas.  Afterwards we went to SavaCentre to pick up bits for Sunday’s party. Thankfully, we had a afternoon with little planned apart from a late call to New Zealand for the kids to chat to Jessica over Skype.

Friday was a day (well an afternoon and evening!) for Jon and I.  Callum and I had a lazy morning, and in the afternoon, Callum was off to Aunty Nicky’s for the afternoon to play with his cousins for a couple of hours.  Mum and Dad were having Callum for a sleep-over on Friday night and as Mum was feeling really well, they took Dan as well as Callum.  So pleased the boys were really well behaved for Granny and Grandad (well apart Callum talking non-stop … even in his sleep!)

Jon and I meanwhile, heading into London for the evening.  We had a free room booked at the Waldorf Hilton (well, we needed to use up some of Jon’s loyalty points!) and an evening meal at a fab Thai Restaurant called The Mango Tree.

The room we had at the Waldorf was fab.  I’d stayed at the Waldorf once before (on business – we held an exhibition there!) and from what I remembered the bedroom I had was really small.  Just enough room for a bed and that was about it!  So this treat was a pleasant surprise.

We returned to reality around Saturday lunchtime and went to collect Callum.  He was shatter as Mum and Dad had taken the two boys off on a very long walk in the morning and worn them out for us!

I had a go at Pumpkin Carving this year … very sad and searched the internet for a simple template to trace.  May have a go at something a little more complex next year.  Great fun to do and once all the innards were scooped out, it was pretty easy to carve.

We were expecting Trick-or-Treaters on the Saturday night with it being Halloween so bought in two large bags of sweets.  A grand total of FOUR turned up – that’s four trick or treaters, not four groups.

Sunday we’d organised a Halloween Party at the local Community Hall … what was supposed to be a party for 15 kids snowballed into a party for 39 kids, plus parents (and a few babies too!).  A fab time was had by all.
