Fire Station Visit

The kids had a real treat in store today - a visit to the Fire Station to see the fire engines and firemen close up. When we arrived all the engines were out on call, but two arrived back a few seconds later.

There were six appliances plus other vehicles and the kids had a quick "drive" and sat in the crew cabin with all the equipment. Fireman Neil did a fab job of explaining what everything was used for and which appliances were used for which calls (each one carries different equipment).

We saw the training tower and house (still smoking from an earlier exercise). And yes, they do still use a pole, although H&S are trying to get them banned. Given that these guys are putting their life on the line going into burning buildings for a living - which is more dangerous???

Thanks very much for organising this Jill - think we had just a good a time as the kids!! Thanks too to her brother for sparing the time to show us around.
